New Champions

In the late 1960's Mona and Paul Bataef traveled to England to search out foundation stock to begin their saluki kennel.  Chief among their criteria were sane temperaments, soundness, and balanced structure with moderate angulation and substance.  Several bloodlines and kennels were looked at before the Tahawi Kennel of Terry Thorn was decided upon as the place where they would acquire their foundation stock.

They brought back two salukis: a grizzle male, Tawahi Farouk, and  a black and silver bitch, Tahawi  Halima.

Monab's first litter, produced from these two dogs, had a number of firsts: the world's first chocolate saluki champion, Ch Monab Chruguy Ya Yune and the first recorded incidence of a mutant smooth which is  a smooth produced from two feathered salukis.  This is unsual because feathereds are recessive gentically and smooths are dominant.  Ordinarily, one parent must be smooth in order for a smooth to be produced.  This smooth dog was Monab Pavlusha.  This litter also produced multiple chocolates.  Monab was one of the first saluki kennels in the world to regularly produce both smooths and chocolates.
